New 750,000-Gallon Tank Doubles Water Storage Capacity
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Aug. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Tennessee American Water, in coordination with its contractor Landmark Structures, has completed the tank hoist of its new Lookout Valley water storage tank. Once in service, the tank will hold 750,000 gallons of treated water, doubling water storage capacity for the Lookout Valley area.
The new tank is one of several infrastructure improvements included in Tennessee American Water's capital investment program, which is expected to total more than $45 million in 2026.
"This project represents an important investment in the reliability and resilience of our water system," said Grant Evitts, President of Tennessee American Water. "The additional storage will strengthen our ability to meet customer demand, respond to emergencies, and provide reliable service for years to come."
The welded steel tank bowl was constructed on the ground, centered around a concrete pedestal measuring approximately 95 feet tall. After construction and coating work were completed, a crane lifted the tank bowl into place atop the pedestal. When placed into service, the tank will provide additional operational flexibility and redundancy for customers served in the Lookout Valley area of the Citico distribution system.
Tanks are an important part of the distribution system, located in elevated areas where gravity can assist with the delivery of treated water through pipes to homes and businesses. Tennessee American Water has 20 tanks located in its Citico service area, which serves Chattanooga, East Ridge, Lookout Mountain and Red Bank in Tennessee as well as communities in northwest Georgia. The new tank is located adjacent to an existing elevated water storage tank of the same capacity.
Landmark Structures is a leading provider of engineering, construction, and asset management services for storage solutions in the water, wastewater, power, and industrial markets in North America.
