Minor League Baseball has named Gwinnett Stripers right-hander A.J. Smith-Shawver the International League Pitcher of the Week for August 10-16, the league announced Monday.
Smith-Shawver made one start during the week, August 11 at Norfolk. In his fifth outing with the Stripers this season, he struck out a season-high seven batters over 5 1/3 scoreless, one-hit innings in a no-decision. Thanks to that start, he ranked among league pitching leaders for the week in ERA (T-1st, 0.00), WHIP (1st, 0.19) and BAA (2nd, .059).
It is the first career International League weekly award for the 23-year-old Smith-Shawver, who has logged 37 career starts with Gwinnett dating back to 2023. He is 7-10 with a 4.25 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and .203 BAA across parts of four seasons as a Striper.
Smith-Shawver is the first Gwinnett player to earn an International League weekly award in 2026. J.R. Ritchie won the league’s Pitcher of the Month award for April.
The Stripers return home to Gwinnett Field to begin a six-game series vs. the Durham Bulls on Tuesday, August 18.
