MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Back-to-school season is officially underway in the ArkLaTex.

Students and staff in the Magnolia School District in Arkansas return to the classroom Thursday. That makes Magnolia the first district in the region to hit the books this year.

Magnolia is starting earlier than neighboring districts due to its 12-month academic calendar. The Magnolia School Board adopted the modified schedule to provide students and staff with more frequent rest periods throughout the year.

Under this calendar, summer break lasts roughly six to seven weeks. Students still complete the state-mandated 178 days of instruction. However, the schedule adds week-long holidays across most months of the school year.

Families can access student registration details, school supply lists, bell schedules, and cafeteria menus on the Magnolia School District website.

KTBS also wants to highlight local students during their first week. Viewers can share their back-to-school photos on social media using #KTBSBTS or send them directly to pics@KTBS.com. You just might see them on TV.
