Kahla Johnson has been recognized for her exceptional job performance and steadfast commitment to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office.
Johnson was nominated for the award by co-worker Diana Williams, a 25-year veteran of the team, who highlighted Johnson’s standout dedication to conservation efforts across the region.
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, colleagues and leadership gathered at the Albia office to celebrate Johnson’s achievements and enduring team spirit. Will Myers, Field Services Bureau Chief for the Division of Soil Conservation and Water Quality at the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, presented the award and read Williams’ nominating letter to the team.
The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the organization: it is the first time a Conservation District of Iowa (CDI) employee has received this recognition. Dien Judge, CDI Executive Director, attended the event to celebrate Johnson, whom he hired from a competitive pool of nearly two dozen applicants.
Based out of the Appanoose NRCS office each morning, Johnson provides vital support across a four-county area including Appanoose, Monroe, Davis, and Wapello counties. Her dedication and multi-county outreach play a crucial role in maintaining local project operations and advancing regional conservation efforts.
