WASHINGTON, D.C. - As part of the America 250 celebration highlighting the history and people of the ArkLaTex, KTBS viewers are getting a behind-the-scenes look inside the nation's Capitol.
During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., KTBS 3 Community Projects Director Jan Elkins and her tour group explored some of the country's most iconic landmarks, including the U.S. Capitol. The group viewed historic treasures such as the Capitol Rotunda, the statue of Huey Long, and the original Declaration of Independence.
The highlight of the trip came with a personal visit from Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who welcomed the group to his office.
The Bossier City native gave the group a tour of his office, including his private balcony overlooking Washington, D.C., with a sweeping view of the Washington Monument. He also shared several of his favorite keepsakes, including a football signed by 2019 national champion Joe Burrow and a personalized New Orleans Saints jersey.
The Speaker also pointed out the conference table where many high-level meetings and negotiations take place in the Capitol.
The visit is part of KTBS's ongoing America 250 coverage, celebrating the people, places, and stories that connect the ArkLaTex to the nation's 250th anniversary.
