BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple is advising residents to prepare for heavy rainfall and potential localized flooding later this week as meteorologists track a tropical disturbance in the eastern Gulf.

The system is forecast to become Tropical Storm Bertha and move northwest along the northern Gulf Coast, bringing heavy rain to southeastern Louisiana by Wednesday.

Commissioner Temple urges residents to review homeowners and flood insurance policies, understand out-of-pocket deductible costs, and keep policy records accessible. The Louisiana Department of Insurance also recommends clearing gutters, trimming trees, documenting property with photos, and preparing an emergency plan.

Residents can access storm resources through the LDIConnect app, by visiting www.ldi.la.gov, or by calling 1-800-259-5300.
