MANSURA, La. — While the Ark-La-Tex was spared the worst impacts of Tropical Storm Arthur, communities in south Louisiana, including Avoyelles Parish, continue to deal with significant flooding and storm damage.
The American Red Cross Louisiana says Avoyelles Parish was among the hardest-hit areas. In response, the Red Cross has opened supply distribution sites and a shelter in Mansura to assist residents affected by the storm.
The organization is now asking for volunteers to help with recovery efforts, including conducting damage assessments, staffing shelters and distributing supplies.
"Learn about the different opportunities we have. Meet with some of our other volunteers," said Karen McCoy, executive director of the American Red Cross North Louisiana Chapter. "What I find is once people get out in the community and are involved, there's really nothing more fulfilling than being able to help your neighbors in need."
Those interested in volunteering can call 225-726-4381. Donations can be made through the American Red Cross website, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
