SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport is launching a brand-new patriotic festival this week to mark the beginning of the countdown to the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The Red, White, and Boom festival will serve as the city's official kickoff celebration for America 250. Organized by Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation, the event is scheduled for Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the downtown Red River District.

The free, family-friendly celebration features a full evening of local entertainment, activities, and a high-tech visual finale.

Line dancing kicks off the festival at 5 p.m. Live music performances throughout the night will feature local talent, including The Curtis Mills Experience and the Shreveport Regional Jazz Ensemble. City officials will take the stage between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to make official announcements regarding the yearlong Shreveport America 250 calendar of events. Be sure to stick around for the amazing laser show at 8:15 p.m.

Family activities in the district include face painting, balloon artists, and stilt walkers. The first 500 children to arrive will receive a free red, white, and blue popsicle sponsored by Brookshire's Grocery.

Local establishments in the Red River District are offering themed menu items for the evening, including a signature Red, White, and Blue Daiquiri at G-Spot, as well as patriotic food and drink specials at Red River Social Club and Cassandra's Place. Local vendors will also serve up themed food items like All-American hot dogs and a special patriotic bread pudding.
