SHREVEPORT, La. — Hunters for the Hungry is getting ready for its annual Clean Out Your Freezer Day this Sunday.

The event encourages hunters and residents to clean out their freezers before hunting season and donate frozen food that is unopened and properly packaged.

KTBS 3's Patrick Dennis previewed the event Thursday from Smith Family Farms North in Benton, one of several local drop-off locations.

In the Shreveport-Bossier area, donations can be dropped off Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Smith Family Farms, located at 601 Kingston Road, Suite 400, in Benton.

All food collected in the Shreveport-Bossier area will be donated to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana will also accept donations Monday through Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 285 Mount Zion Road in Shreveport.

Other area drop-off locations include the Natchitoches Parish Council on Aging, at 1016 Keyser Avenue, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Those donations will benefit the Food Bank of Central Louisiana and local agencies.

In Ruston, donations can be dropped off Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Dubach Deer Factory & Smokehouse, 599 Highway 167 in Dubach. Donations will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana.

Organizers say residents should make sure donated food is unopened and properly packaged before dropping it off.

The annual event provides an opportunity to clear out freezer space before hunting season while helping put food on the tables of families across north Louisiana.
