SHREVEPORT, La. — With summer travel season bringing more vehicles and trailers onto the road, this week’s “Answering the Call” focused on the dangers of unsecured loads and how drivers can help prevent crashes.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Eddie Thomas said items that are not properly secured can quickly become hazards for other motorists.
“Those things that fall off of vehicles become road hazards,” Thomas said.
Thomas recommends using the proper tie-down equipment, securing cargo on all sides, placing heavier items on the bottom and checking loads before heading out. Thomas said taking a few extra minutes to secure belongings can help prevent serious crashes and keep everyone safer on Louisiana roadways.
Thomas also reminded drivers to wear seatbelts, obey speed limits and avoid distracted or impaired driving as summer traffic continues to increase.
