TEXARKANA, Texas - A Texarkana non-profit, Ben’s Heart Ministries, kicked off Memorial Day weekend on Saturday by properly retiring several U.S. flags and replace by newer flags.
The demonstration reflected our pride in Old Glory and to have our “stars and stripes” flying high and in pristine condition for the important remembrance of our veterans and for those who lost their lives for our country.
Ben’s Heart Ministry addresses pride and caring to those soldiers who have been affected by the mental health issues often caused by combat and war, such as post-traumatic stress syndrome.
The group is comprised of volunteer veterans who wish to serve their sisters and brothers dealing with the effects of PTSD.
Founder of Ben’s Heart Ministry, Suzy Kroll, had a son who suffered from depression and eventually took his own life.
“If a veteran has a problem, they call our numbers, we have check board members and they can talk 24/7,” said Veteran Troy Kasch. “If they’re feeling down, in the dumps, maybe suicidal thoughts, call us and we’ll come, talk to you and even if we just got to sit there and listen to you for a while, maybe if you need a hug, just take care of the veteran.”
Bubba's 33 and the Lost Pizza Company helped fund the new flags.
