SHREVEPORT, La. — Caddo Parish officials say their effort to eradicate feral hogs is making progress, with crews trapping 20 more animals last week at Green Oaks High School.

The latest capture brings the total number of feral hogs trapped across the parish to more than 70 since the program began, according to Caddo Parish Animal Services and Mosquito Control.

Officials say the hogs captured at Green Oaks were a particular safety concern because of the school's proximity to children.

Feral hogs are known to damage landscapes and agricultural areas and can pose safety risks to people and pets. Caddo Parish officials have been using advanced trapping technology designed to capture entire groups of hogs, known as sounders, at once.

Officials say the latest batch of hogs will be taken to a processing plant. The meat will then be donated to a local organization to help feed people experiencing homelessness.
