ELM GROVE, La. — A driver died, and two train crew members suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon when a semi-truck collided with a train in Bossier Parish.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. on Old Highway 71 near U.S. Highway 71, according to Louisiana State Police.

Friday, the cleanup process continued, and the nearby roadway remained closed. LSP says emergency crews are conducting an active hazardous materials investigation. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area while hazmat personnel work to evaluate the situation.

Investigators said Andrew Morrow, 29, of Ruston, was driving a 2024 Mack truck tractor westbound on Old Highway 71. A Canadian Pacific Kansas City train was approaching the intersection at the same time.

For reasons still under investigation, the truck entered the crossing and collided with the train.

Morrow died at the scene. Authorities said severe damage prevented troopers from immediately determining if he was wearing a seat belt.

Two CPKC employees were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers said impairment is not suspected, though standard toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
