SHREVEPORT, La. - A Shreveport man has been arrested and charged with second-degree rape after DNA evidence linked him to the sexual assault of a 13-year-old victim.

The Shreveport Police Department says Matthew Britton, 36, was taken into custody following an investigation that began in January after the victim disclosed details about the assault.

According to police, the victim identified Britton as the suspect. Detectives said Britton denied the allegations when he was first questioned.

Investigators obtained a DNA sample from Britton and submitted it for comparison with evidence collected during the victim's hospital examination.

Thursday, detectives received DNA test results that confirmed Britton's involvement.

Britton was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree rape. If convicted he could face up to 40 years in prison.
