SHREVEPORT, La. - Services are being held Saturday for former Shreveport Mayor John Hussey, who died at the age of 92.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. A visitation was held on Friday evening at Osborn Funeral Home.
Hussey served two terms from 1982 to 1990 as the first mayor under Shreveport's current mayor-council form of government. He is widely remembered for leading the city's 125th anniversary celebration in 1985.
Last July, Hussey received a standing ovation as the Grand Honoree at the Celebrate Downtown Legacy event. The Downtown Development Authority recognized him for his leadership during a transformative period for the city.
