SHREVEPORT, La. - Community members gathered Saturday at Galilee Eden Gardens to honor the legacy of the late Pastor E. Edward Jones by expanding the community garden he helped inspire.

Volunteers planted herbs, spices and other edible plants as part of an effort to continue Jones' longtime commitment to serving the community and providing fresh food to those in need.

Donna Jones Hassan, Jones' daughter, said she hopes the garden continues to bring people together and strengthen the community.

"I'm hoping that it fosters another place for community because we struggle a little bit with that in the city, and you want better days," said Hassan.

The garden project is one of several events being held to mark the 10th anniversary of Jones' death and celebrate his lasting impact on Shreveport and Caddo Parish.
