SHREVEPORT, La. - LSU Health Shreveport and Louisiana Tech University have formalized a new research partnership aimed at expanding collaboration, increasing access to resources and strengthening North Louisiana's scientific research ecosystem.
Leaders from both institutions signed the agreement during a ceremony Tuesday morning at the Louisiana Tech Research Institute in Bossier City.
The partnership is designed to create new opportunities for students and researchers at both universities by encouraging collaborative research projects, providing access to specialized equipment and offering formal training from faculty members across the two institutions.
Officials say the agreement also positions both universities to compete more effectively for federal and private research grants.
"What we want to do is get the very smartest folks together, our brains in the same rooms, and see what it brings together, what we can create together for the greater good," said Dr. Lester Johnson, LSU Health Shreveport senior vice chancellor.
Research conducted at LSU Health Shreveport and Louisiana Tech already has a significant economic impact on North Louisiana, generating millions of dollars in external federal research funding each year. University leaders say the new collaboration is expected to strengthen that impact by expanding research capabilities and fostering innovation across the region.
The partnership marks a significant step in advancing scientific research and workforce development in North Louisiana while creating new opportunities for students, faculty and researchers at both institutions.
