SHREVEPORT, La. – Local fathers and their children can celebrate Father's Day early this month with a pair of free, public programs hosted by the Shreve Memorial Library system.
The library is organizing special interactive events at the North Shreveport and Wallette branches between Saturday and Tuesday.
The festivities begin Saturday at the North Shreveport Branch, located at 4844 North Market Street. From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., children can visit the library to create a handmade popcorn card craft to give to their fathers.
On Tuesday, the Wallette Branch at 363 Hearne Avenue will host a Father's Day Read-In from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program aims to recognize the vital role fathers play in supporting childhood literacy. Families can read together, participate in crafts and share interactive activities.
Library officials also announced that all Shreve Memorial Library branches will close from Friday through Saturday in observance of Juneteenth. Branches will also remain closed Sunday for Father’s Day.
Additional information about these events and other community programming can be found on the library system's website at www.shreve-lib.org.
