SHREVEPORT, La. — City Council members are expressing frustration over tall grass and overgrown vegetation along municipal roads and Interstate 220 exit ramps.

Council members report that overgrown grass along I-220 is blocking drivers' visibility at several busy off-ramps. While the city maintains certain interstate sections, state highway crews are responsible for others.

Public works crews have faced major delays this summer because of heavy rain and contractor performance issues.

To improve service, the city recently canceled contracts with underperforming mowing companies. Full cutting crews and new contractors were deployed last week to clear overgrown areas.

State maintenance crews are expected to finish cutting grass along I-220 by the end of the week. Meanwhile, city officials are drafting a streamlined mowing plan to present to the City Council for future seasons.
