SHREVEPORT, La. — A Caddo Parish grand jury has indicted a 23-year-old man for a deadly shooting that took place on Easter Sunday.

Valentino Carter faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Jerquavious Johnson Jr., 25.

The shooting occurred in April in a parking lot on West 70th Street, near the Southgate Shopping Center. According to investigators, the incident took place outside Tha Spot nightclub during a weekend event where hundreds of people had gathered.

Shreveport police officers were already in the immediate area responding to a loitering complaint when they heard gunfire. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

Shreveport Police Department spokesman Cpl. Chris Bordelon said the arrest followed "relentless efforts" by homicide detectives, who spent hundreds of hours reviewing video footage and conducting interviews. The death of Johnson was the city's fifth homicide of the year.

Carter is currently being held at the Caddo Correctional Center. A judge has set his bond at $500,000.
