SHREVEPORT, La. - More than 60 children and their parents gathered for the Shreveport Police Department's annual youth fishing camp at Cross Lake.
The camp has been held for more than 30 years and is organized by the department's Community-Oriented Policing Bureau.
Officers said the event provides an opportunity for families to interact with police officers in a relaxed setting while learning about safe summer activities.
Participants learned boating safety, fishing and casting instructions and environmental conservation efforts at Cross Lake.
Organizers said one of the most popular activities was bringing kids out on boats. Officers said many of the children had never been on a boat before, making the trip a memorable experience.
