SHREVEPORT, La. — The Shreveport Police Department announced it will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in west Shreveport next Saturday.

The operation is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 p.m. and will continue until 4 a.m.

Department officials said the checkpoint will be conducted in accordance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration guidelines and Louisiana law. Officers will look for impaired drivers in an effort to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by impaired driving.

The Shreveport Police Department stated that it remains committed to keeping roadways safe for everyone. Authorities advise anyone who plans to consume alcohol or other impairing substances to make arrangements for a sober ride home by designating a driver, using a rideshare service, calling a friend, or staying in place until it is safe to drive.

Officials added that driving under the influence puts lives at risk and will not be tolerated.
