SHREVEPORT, La. — Local authorities are launching a safety initiative to ensure drivers and passengers are buckled up.
The Shreveport Police Department, in partnership with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, will operate a seat belt checkpoint on Monday, June 29. The safety checkpoint will run from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the northern region of the city.
While officers will primarily focus on occupant protection laws, enforcement efforts will expand to any observed traffic violations. The main objective of the campaign is to reduce preventable traffic fatalities and severe injuries. Department officials stated that the checkpoint will comply fully with legal guidelines established by the Louisiana Supreme Court in State of Louisiana v. Leon Jackson.
