SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport’s Airport Park pool is once again open to the public following a major renovation project.

City leaders held a ceremony Tuesday morning to celebrate the reopening. Local residents and officials expressed excitement about the return of the facility, which has been under construction as part of a series of park improvements.

"It is so beautiful that they can just come here and just have a great time and have some safe fun," Shreveport City Councilman James Green said. "It's just a blessing. I just thank God for making this possible, and the people for voting for the bond proposal when it came out to make all this possible."

The upgrades were paid for with a previous bond proposal. While the ceremony took place, Green noted that children in the area are eager to begin swimming, which is expected to be permitted by Wednesday.

The Airport Park project is one of several recent upgrades to local parks. The final pool scheduled for renovations is located at Southern Hills in Councilman Alan Jackson’s district, though that reopening has been delayed.
