SHREVEPORT, La. - The state of Louisiana is taking action against a Shreveport apartment complex just days after reports exposed deplorable living conditions at the facility.

The Louisiana Housing Corporation said it is stepping up enforcement of conditions at the Fairmont Apartments in downtown Shreveport. On Monday, residents at the complex reported issues including stained carpets, damaged walls, cockroach infestations and unreliable air conditioning.

Residents also noted questionable odors throughout the building, despite a $21 million renovation project completed last year.

The owners of the complex told KTBS the current challenges are connected to a homeless encampment located next door to the property.

Since Monday, the Louisiana Housing Corporation has required the developer, Midland Residence, to bring the building into compliance and make all necessary improvements.
