HEFLIN, La. - Two men are in critical condition after a shooting Friday south of Heflin, and the suspected gunman is facing attempted murder charges.

The Webster Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of shots fired just after 4 p.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Highway 792. When deputies arrived, they found two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sheriff Jason Parker identified the victims as 27-year-old Markeese Germany and 30-year-old Tadazion Jackson. Both were taken to LSU Ochsner Medical Center in Shreveport.

Authorities said 21-year-old Remington Gage Jellum of Dubberly turned himself in at the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office shortly after the shooting. Investigators also recovered the weapon believed to have been used.

Jellum is being held at the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on two counts of attempted second-degree murder. No bond has been set.

According to Parker, the victims were struck a combined seven times, with all of the gunshot wounds entering through their backs. Investigators said Jellum initially claimed self-defense but later told detectives the shooting stemmed from a drug-related altercation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
