TEXARKANA, Texas — A drops in water pressure has triggered a boil water mandate for several neighborhoods in Texarkana, Texas.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required Texarkana Water Utilities to issue the notification today, after the public water system experienced low pressure and a temporary loss of water supply.

The affected area is bounded by Phenie Avenue to the south, Caddo Street to the north, Lake Drive to the east, and South Lelia Street to the west.

Municipal water officials advise all customers within these boundaries to boil their water vigorously for two minutes and let it cool before drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing their hands and faces. Children, senior citizens, and individuals with compromised immune systems are noted as being especially susceptible to potential harmful bacteria during this period.

Bottled water may be used as an alternative for human consumption.

The boil water directive will remain in place until Texarkana Water Utilities officials conduct testing and issue a formal notice rescinding the order.

Residents are asked to share this information with neighbors, particularly those in apartments, schools, businesses, and nursing homes who might not receive direct alerts.
