YELLOSTONE NATIONAL PARK - A 12-year-old was taken to the hospital after being injured by a bison in Yellowstone National Park.

A release from the park reports the visitor was hurt near Mud Volcano, north of Fishing Bridge on June 26 around 9:15 am.

No further details on the visitor’s condition have been shared at this time and an investigation is ongoing.

Park officials are reminding people to respect wild animals and their space. Keep at least 25 yards away from all large animals like bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes, and at least 100 yards away from bears, wolves and cougars.

If you are approached by any wildlife, you should move away to maintain the required distance and should never approach, touch, feed or crowd wildlife.
