BOZEMAN, Mont. — Construction on I-90 between Belgrade and Bozeman is wrapping up, but drivers should plan for some daytime slowdowns starting July 23.

Crews will be applying a chip seal to the roadway, which means single-lane traffic and reduced speeds for about a week, according to the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT).

Most of the project work happens at night to limit disruptions, but MDT explained this part must occur during the day because warmer temperatures are needed for the material to cure properly.

The work area stretches from the east end of the Belgrade Airway Boulevard Interchange at Exit 299 to the North Rouse Avenue railroad overpass in Bozeman. MDT said the project is meant to help the road last longer and improve safety in the corridor.

After the chip seal, crews plan to stripe the roadway and clear loose rock from the surface. They also expect to return 30 to 45 days later to install permanent epoxy pavement markings.
