DILLON, Mont. — A 25-year-old man died in an accidental fall near a popular cliff diving spot at Clark Canyon Reservoir on July 30, Beaverhead County Sheriff's Office said in a release.
Deputies received a report of a deceased man on the island at the reservoir. First responders, including Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the sheriff's office, found the body of Dawson Roylance on a rocky section of shore below the cliff diving area.
Investigators found no signs of foul play.
An autopsy at the Missoula Crime Lab determined Roylance's injuries matched a fall from an elevated height, the sheriff’s office said.
The agency also offered condolences to Roylance's family and friends.
The sheriff's office warned that cliff diving can be dangerous because of water depth, underwater hazards, changing water levels and unstable cliff edges.
