FLATHEAD COUNTY, Mont. – Haywire Gulch closed on Wednesday afternoon due to a fire in the area.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office announced the closure at 3:13 p.m. that day, saying fire crews were fighting an “active fire” in the area.

Law enforcement was working to evacuate at-risk residents, it added at the time. It also asked people to avoid the area while emergency services worked to protect lives and property.

Nearly 20 minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office updated its post and said the fire was “knocked down and under control.”

We want to thank the numerous fire, law enforcement, and emergency response agencies that responded quickly and worked together to get the fire under control,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

It said Haywire Gulch would remain closed to the general public while responders completed their work. Residents would be allowed to enter the area but were asked to use caution around emergency crews.
