Great Falls, Mont. — NorthWestern Energy said several hydroelectric facilities in the Electric City area received OSHA voluntary protection program certification for the first time.

The company said the newly recognized sites included facilities in Black Eagle, Rainbow and Morony, along with others in its hydroelectric system. NorthWestern Energy said the certification demonstrates those workplaces went beyond basic safety rules to help prevent hazards on the job.

The company said the recognition followed years of work by operations, maintenance and support staff to build a workplace centered on safety while also protecting nearby communities.

Safety manager Trevin Anderson said the honor reflects a much broader team effort.

“There’s a lot more people involved, a lot more personalities, a lot more facilities on it and to keep up with the standard that you guys achieved here so big kudos to everybody here in this room that has put in a ton of work into getting to where we are here today,” Anderson said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s voluntary protection program recognizes workplaces for safety protections put in place within the company’s hydroelectric system.
