MISSOULA, Mont. — The Missoula Police Department is urging residents to be cautious about counterfeit pills, which can contain dangerous substances even when they look like legitimate prescription medications.
Missoula Police have not had any confirmed cases of carfentanil, but illegal drugs and fake pills remain an ongoing concern across the country, the department said.
The department warned that pills bought from friends, social media or other unofficial sources can look like real prescription medicine.
People are urged to not to take any pill unless a health care provider prescribed it specifically to them. Police said even one pill from an unknown source can lead to life-threatening consequences.
Anyone with information about suspected drug trafficking or other criminal activity in Missoula could report it anonymously by calling 406-721-4444.
More information about counterfeit pills and fentanyl was available through the DEA's One Pill Can Kill campaign.
