BOULDER, Mont. – In Jefferson County, lands managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) will be under Stage 1 fire restrictions starting August 15.
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire is prohibited under the Stage 1 restrictions, unless an exemption is made.
Smoking is only permitted within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area clear of flammable materials. Liquid petroleum gas or propane stoves may be cooked on, so long as they can be turned off.
FWP followed the country’s lead in placing fire restrictions on its properties within that county. The restrictions will be in place until further notice.
FWP urged people to use caution while recreating due to dry conditions and fire danger.
Information on wildfire prevention and the latest on fires in Montana can be found at their website.
Restrictions and closures at FWP sites are reported on the FWP closure page.
