White Sulphur Springs, Mont. — A woman charged in the killing of a White Sulphur Springs business owner told the court she is ready to take her case to trial.

NonStop Local was in the courtroom when Kyle Ann Morrow made her first court appearance. She appeared before Judge Adam Larsen on Tuesday and entered a not guilty plea.

Morrow is accused of going into the Spa Hot Springs Motel in White Sulphur Springs last month, finding owner Gene Gudmundson and shooting him before leaving, according to the case presented in court.

The case has also drawn attention because Morrow was a published author who wrote under a pen name. The report said she described her books as "Rodeo erotica" novels and that they centered on murder or other violence in Montana.

One of those books, "The Black Iron Bandy," was sold at the spa, where Morrow had briefly worked before the shooting, according to the report.

"I woke to the homicidal thought. Snug under the bedcovers, I let the idea set, get comfortable. Could I actually kill him though?"

The Meagher County City Library also carried the book. Staff reported all copies were checked out as demand increased.

If convicted, Morrow could face up to life in prison. Her next court date is scheduled for September 14.
