WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. – In celebration of Independence day weekend, Yellowstone National Park will have free entry for U.S. residents. Park officials asked visitors to plan ahead to have an enjoyable time at Yellowstone for Fourth of July.
Popular areas such as Old Faithful are expected to gather crowds. Construction areas, roadside wildlife sightings and entrance stations had seen lots of lines. Planning was encouraged by officials.
Tips were also provided for safe visits to the park.
Boardwalks provide stable pathways and wonders of the park. Thermal basins and hot springs cause injury to visitors that walk or fall off the boardwalk paths.
Wildlife is abundant in the park and dangerous. Visitors have been injured or killed by bears, bison and elk. Park officials recommend keeping a minimum distance of 100 yards.
To watch wildlife, take pictures and let other cars pass for safety, visitors should use the pullouts. Traffic-related accidents are reported as a common cause of human injury and fatality in the park.
Park road congestion and construction may cause traffic delays and closures. Information is available for status and updates on Yellowstone National Park roads by visiting the website, or calling (307) 344-2117 for recorded information. Text alerts are also available on mobile phone by texting “82190” to 888-777.
Fireworks are prohibited in Yellowstone. Even a spark ignites a wildfire.
Campfires are allowed within fire rings in designated campgrounds and backcountry campsites in the park. Campfires should never be unattended. Visitors should ensure fire rings are cold to the touch before leaving.
Campgrounds and lodging require a reservation before arriving at the park. Information for visitors can be found in a list shared by Park officials.
“Additionally, if you really want to share your love for Yellowstone, take the Yellowstone Pledge. Encourage your friends and family to do the same and share your photos with us online using #YellowstonePledge. Have a safe and happy Independence Day!” National Parks Services posted on their website.
