In August 2016, the Rogersville Laundry Ministry was started. Its purpose is to help local people by providing finds and supplies to help them clean their clothes.
It was started by the people of First Christian Church. Bryan and Cris Griffin have been working with the laundry ministry since it began. “It started with an idea from our church’s women’s ministry," said Bryan. "We started out at one location, two nights each month. It quickly grew with more churches and individuals involves. Now we are at Dirty Dudz and West Rogersville Coin Laundry each Thursday. There are now six teams involves with staffing the free laundry nights. We give each family $10 and provide detergent, and dryer sheets. We provide everything except the dirty laundry!”
The Rogersville Laundry Ministry meets a need in the Rogersville community. Cris added, “This is a small way to make an impact. Everybody needs clean clothes.”
Bryan explained that the number of people served varies from week to week; “up to 129 have been served on a Thursday.”
After ten years, the laundry ministry is still growing. Growth and rising expenses have caused the finances to get tight. Bryan said “We operate the laundry ministry by the generosity of churches, organizations, and individuals who donate their time, supplies and finances. If you are looking for a meaningful way to invest in our local community, please consider making a monetary donation. Every little bit helps! No donation is too small.”
New volunteers are welcome, too.
Donations can be sent to: Rogersville Laundry Ministry, P.O. Box 312, Rogersville, TN 37857
Bryan added “The laundry ministry meets a need in the community. We’re here to help!”
