Carthage High School earned an A rating in the latest state accountability results, while Carthage ISD received an overall B as district leaders celebrate areas of success and identify opportunities for continued improvement.

The Texas Education Agency gave Carthage ISD an overall score of 80 out of 100 for the 2025-26 school year. The district, which serves 2,602 students across five campuses, received an 81 the previous year.

Carthage High School posted the district’s highest campus score, earning an A with a 92. CHS also received three TEA Distinction Designations for Academic Achievement in Reading/Language Arts, Top 25% Comparative Academic Growth and Top 25% Comparative Closing the Gaps.

Distinction designations recognize campuses for high achievement in specific areas when compared with similar schools across the state.

The district’s remaining four campuses received C ratings. Carthage Junior High earned a 76, Libby Elementary and Carthage Primary each received a 74, and Baker-Koonce Intermediate received a 70.

At the district level, Carthage ISD scored 81 in Student Achievement and 82 in School Progress. Student Achievement considers factors including STAAR performance, graduation rates and preparation for success after high school. School Progress measures improvement over time and compares performance with districts serving similar economically disadvantaged student populations.

Carthage ISD received a 75 in Closing the Gaps, which district officials said will remain an area of focus. The measure looks at how successfully a district is serving different student groups.

District leaders said the results provide reasons to celebrate, particularly the performance of Carthage High School, while also showing areas where additional work is needed.
