WOODSBORO – Skidmore-Tynan did not drop a set Saturday as the Lady Cats swept Ingleside and Agua Dulce to win the championship bracket at the Woodsboro Melody Payne Memorial Tournament.
The Lady Cats defeated Ingleside 25-11, 25-10 in the semifinals before rolling past Agua Dulce 25-10, 25-16 in the championship match.
Lady Cats dominate championship match
Audree Vasquez led the Lady Cats against Agua Dulce with eight kills on 24 attacks. She committed one hitting error and finished with a .292 hitting percentage while adding nine assists and three digs.
Elle Carriger recorded six kills, five digs and two solo blocks. Samantha Sugarek contributed four kills without an error, hit .400 and led the team with 14 assists.
Solana Quintero also had four kills, posting a .375 hitting percentage, and added nine digs.
Alyssa Resio anchored the defense with a match-high 22 digs. She also recorded two assists and one ace.
Natalie Ramirez added four digs, while Tinsley Zemanek and Whitney Thoms finished with two kills apiece.
The Lady Cats recorded 10 kills with two errors on 22 attacks in the opening set for a .364 hitting percentage. They added 16 kills in the second set.
Skidmore-Tynan held Agua Dulce to 10 points in the first set before closing the title with a nine-point victory in the second.
Vasquez powers semifinal sweep
Vasquez led Skidmore-Tynan’s attack in the semifinal victory over Ingleside, recording 12 kills with two errors on 21 attacks for a .476 hitting percentage.
She also finished with four aces, eight assists and seven digs to account for a team-high 16 points.
Carriger added five kills on eight attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. She also recorded two aces and two solo blocks.
Sugarek finished with four kills, 12 assists and three digs. Quintero added two kills, three digs and a solo block.
Ramirez recorded four aces and six digs, while Resio contributed six digs and an ace.
The Lady Cats finished the semifinal with 24 kills and only five hitting errors on 52 attacks for a .365 hitting percentage. They also recorded 11 aces, 30 digs and three team blocks.
Skidmore-Tynan posted nearly identical attacking numbers in the two sets. The Lady Cats had 12 kills in each, hitting .375 in the first set and .357 in the second.
