BRENHAM — A man wanted for murder turned himself in to authorities Wednesday afternoon following an investigation into a fatal shooting.
Trenton Deshunn Gilbert surrendered to the Brenham Police Department around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. Gilbert was booked into the Washington County Jail on an active murder warrant related to the death of Laterius Ragston.
Police had previously issued a wanted poster offering a $5,000 reward through Washington County Crime Stoppers for information leading to Gilbert's arrest.
"I am incredibly proud of the dedication and persistence demonstrated by our investigators and every member of our team who contributed to this case," Brenham Police Chief Gary Boshears said in a statement. "I am also grateful for the assistance provided by our partner agencies, whose cooperation was instrumental in placing the suspect safely into custody."
Boshears added that while the arrest cannot undo the family's loss, officials hope it brings a measure of peace and moves the case toward accountability.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Sgt. Ashley Burns at the Brenham Police Department at 979-337-7369 or Washington County Crime Stoppers at 979-836-8477.
