The first half of 2026 delivered a historic shift in capital allocation. Notably, U.S.-listed exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows officially surpassed the $1 trillion milestone — the fastest pace on record — spearheaded by an unprecedented $300 billion surge into bond ETFs alone.

Despite holding just 16% of total ETF market share entering the year, fixed income accounted for nearly 29% of all net new inflows (as cited in a State Street Investment Management report). Impressively, fixed-income ETF inflows jumped 65% in the first half of 2026 from the year-ago period’s level.
