Dividend investing is among the investing themes that should be on the radar amid heightened uncertainty. Wall Street has remained steady despite the heightened geopolitical crisis this year. With U.S.-Iran tensions showing no signs of cooling, inflationary fears have reared their ugly head all over again.
Oil prices jumped to their highest level in more than two weeks after President Trump said he plans to increase economic pressure on Iran and threatened to “bomb” Oman if it interferes with U.S. plans involving the Strait of Hormuz, as quoted on Yahoo Finance.
No wonder, Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, rose to $91 a barrel, while U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude advanced to $84 a barrel. Moreover, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve dropped to its lowest level since 1982 (per CNBC), further triggering the oil price rally and stoking inflation fears.
Why to Tap Dividend ETFs?
Rising oil prices, the uptick in AI-led borrowing in the tech space, and growing concerns over U.S. government borrowing have pushed bond yields higher globally, as quoted on the same Yahoo Finance article.
The U.S. annual headline Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation rate was 3.7%, while the core PCE inflation rate (excluding food and energy) was 3.3% for June 2026.
Both figures were much higher than the Fed’s target of 2%. If oil-led inflation spikes further, investors may be in dire need of a steady, higher current income, which is inflation-beating.
Investors normally tend to seek dividends, regardless of market conditions. A steady stream of income can help investors offset capital losses, if any, amid heightened market uncertainty.
