AT&T Inc.T is stepping up preparations as Tropical Storm Lala approaches Hawaii, activating its network and disaster-response resources in advance. The company is taking precautionary measures to reinforce its communication systems and prepare for potential service disruptions.
The AT&T Weather Operations Center is closely monitoring the storm to help assess potential risks and guide response efforts. Its network teams are inspecting critical infrastructure, testing backup power systems, deploying generators where needed, and taking steps to protect facilities from possible flooding to reinforce network resilience and enable a faster response if conditions deteriorate.
The company is strengthening its emergency response through its Network Disaster Recovery program, with more than 750 specialized assets ready for rapid deployment, including mobile cell sites, drones and emergency communications vehicles. Its FirstNet Response Operations Group is also coordinating with public-safety agencies and supporting front-line first responders with dedicated deployable resources, such as land-based and airborne portable cell sites.
AT&T is also urging customers to prepare by keeping devices charged, conserving battery power, protecting phones from water and using text messages when networks are busy. The company’s network preparedness, disaster-recovery capabilities and FirstNet public-safety support are likely to keep customers, communities and first responders connected across the turbulent ecosystem.
How Are Competitors Preparing During Natural Calamity?
AT&T faces stiff competition from Verizon Communications, Inc.VZ and T-Mobile, US, Inc.TMUS. Verizon is strengthening its network preparedness ahead of potential natural calamities. Its emergency response teams can deploy backup power, mobile network resources and other equipment in affected areas. Verizon works with local emergency agencies and public-safety organizations to coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts.
T-Mobile is taking a proactive approach to disaster readiness by using network monitoring and operational planning to anticipate potential disruptions. The company focuses on maintaining service through its field teams and technology resources as conditions change. T-Mobile provides customers with emergency communication guidance and tools to help them stay informed during major weather events.
