Corteva, Inc.CTVA delivered a mixed second-quarter 2026 performance, with earnings exceeding expectations while revenues fell short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The company raised its full-year outlook, supported by Seed technology demand, productivity initiatives and new Crop Protection products. However, investors must weigh improving earnings trends against pricing pressure, higher expenses and execution risks related to the planned separation.Â
Corteva reported second-quarter operating earnings of $2.30 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.24 by 2.7% and rising from $2.20 in the prior-year quarter. Revenues declined 1% year over year to $6.38 billion and missed the consensus estimate of $6.62 billion by 3.7%.Â
Corteva has a Neutral recommendation, with a price target of $81.00. Shares trade at 19.61X forward 12-month earnings, above the Zacks sub-industry average of 13.99X but below the broader sector and near the company’s five-year median valuation.

Seed Business Drives Earnings Improvement
Corteva’s Seed segment remained a key contributor to growth. Second-quarter Seed sales were essentially flat at $4.53 billion, as a 3% increase in price/mix offset a 3% decline in volume. Demand for advanced seed technologies and higher out-licensing income supported pricing gains, while lower royalty expenses and productivity actions lifted profitability. Seed operating EBITDA increased 6% to $1.97 billion, with margin expanding more than 230 basis points.
Â
For the first half of 2026, Seed sales increased 4% to $7.56 billion, while operating EBITDA rose 11% to $3 billion. The company benefited from higher technology adoption, stronger price/mix and improved royalty economics.Â
Management also expects Conkesta E3 penetration to reach high single digits to low double digits in 2027, supporting continued adoption of newer seed technologies.
Crop Protection Faces Pricing Pressure
Crop Protection remains the primary area requiring investor attention. Second-quarter sales declined 4% to $1.85 billion due to a 4% pricing decline and a 2% volume decline. Competitive pricing conditions in Latin America and channel purchase timing in North America pressured results.Â
Still, profitability improved as cost savings, productivity actions and favorable currency effects offset pricing pressure. Crop Protection operating EBITDA increased 2% to $342 million in the quarter, while first-half operating EBITDA rose 9% to $776 million.Â
Management expects Crop Protection volumes to grow at a high single-digit rate in the second half of 2026, driven by new product adoption, while pricing is expected to decline in the low to mid-single digits.
Corteva increased its 2026 guidance following strong first-half execution. The company now expects operating EBITDA of $4.1-$4.3 billion, representing approximately 9% growth at the midpoint, and operating EPS of $3.60-$3.80 per share, representing approximately 11% growth at the midpoint.Â
First-half operating EBITDA increased 10% to $3.70 billion, supported by price/mix improvements, cost performance and lower royalty expenses. Productivity actions contributed more than $160 million to EBITDA improvement during the period.
Corteva competes within the broader agricultural sector alongside companies such as Archer Daniels Midland CompanyADM and Adecoagro S.A.AGRO. Corteva focuses primarily on agricultural technology solutions, including seeds and crop protection products, while ADM operates a large-scale agricultural processing and commodities platform and AGRO has exposure to farming, sugar, ethanol and agricultural production assets.
Separation Remains a Major Investor Focus
Corteva continues to prepare for its planned separation into two standalone public companies, targeting completion on Oct. 1, 2026. The company has completed several milestones, including leadership appointments, Form 10 filing and board appointments. Management stated that run-rate dis-synergies are largely offset, although separation timing is expected to create a $25 million headwind in 2026 guidance.Â
Investors will likely focus on whether both businesses can maintain operating momentum while completing the transition. Remaining steps include final capital structures, Form 10 effectiveness and IT separation activities.
