Shares of Advanced Micro Devices AMD dropped 7% on Aug. 5, despite the tech firm reporting better-than-expected second-quarter 2026 results the previous day. AMD’s share price slump reflects that despite comfortably beating Wall Street’s revenue and earnings estimates, the chipmaker failed to improve investor sentiment, likely due to concerns over the sharp rise in second-quarter capital expenditures.

While the stock regained its footing in the following trading session by inching up 1.5%, it remains 5.7% below the price level it boasted before the second-quarter results.
