FedEx Freight FDXF has entered the public market as a standalone freight company. Its S&P 500 debut gives investors a clearer way to evaluate a business that was previously housed inside FedEx.

The case now rests on a focused less-than-truckload, or LTL, network, post-spin targets and the company’s ability to execute without the operating support of its former parent.
