Perdue Budget

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue talks to farmers and others during a stop in Iowa. Perdue responded during a teleconference with reporters to a budget proposal released May 23 that cut funding to the USDA by about $6 billion.

Massive cuts mark the Trump administration’s proposed budget for the USDA, drawing swift reaction from a number of agricultural organizations along with the reminder that much of what the president has proposed is unlikely to make it through Congress.

“President Trump promised he would re-align government spending … and see that all government agencies are efficiently delivering services to the taxpayers of America,” said U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, who talked briefly about the budget during a teleconference with reporters after it was released today (May 23). “I don’t think there’s any reason to try to sugarcoat this. USDA … will face significant funding reductions by the time this process is complete.”
