KBR, Inc.’s KBR Mission Technology Solutions (MTS) business, which is slated to become an independent company, Trinzic, has secured an estimated $208 million cost-plus-fixed-fee task order to continue supporting the U.S. Army’s Tactical Aviation and Ground Munitions (TAGM) portfolio. The five-year recompete extends KBR’s role as a prime contractor and reinforces its involvement in the Army’s precision-strike and aviation modernization programs.
Army Award Strengthens Trinzic’s Defense Modernization Position
The task order was awarded under the One Acquisition Solution for Integrated Services Plus (OASIS+) government-wide contract vehicle. Under the award, Trinzic will provide end-to-end lifecycle support encompassing advanced engineering, rapid prototyping, modernization, foreign military sales and global logistics. The work covers a broad portfolio of combat-proven weapon systems, with the further inclusion of Hydra Rockets, Long-Range Precision Munitions and advanced rocket and containerized weapons platforms.
The award underscores KBR’s 25 years of long-standing role in supporting the U.S. Army’s precision-weapons portfolio of supporting in advance critical weapon systems from early-stage development to combat readiness. The latest task order also aligns with key Army modernization priorities, including multi-domain operations, Army Aviation lethality, Launched Effects and cost-effective Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System capabilities.
The contract comes as KBR progresses toward the planned separation of MTS, which is expected to operate under the Trinzic name following the spin-off targeted for Jan. 4, 2027. Trinzic is expected to launch with more than $5 billion in annual revenues, approximately 18,000 employees and capabilities spanning national security, human performance, global operations and space.
KBR’s Strong Backlog and Recent Awards Support MTS’ Position
KBR ended the second quarter of fiscal 2026 with total backlog and options of approximately $23 billion, compared with $23.2 billion at the beginning of the fiscal year. Mission Technology Solutions accounted for about $17.5 billion, compared with $18.9 billion at the start of fiscal 2026. The segment posted a 0.8x book-to-bill ratio during the fiscal second quarter, while its trailing-12-month book-to-bill stood at 1.0x.Â
Recent contract wins further demonstrate MTS’ presence across defense, space, logistics and federal civilian missions. During the quarter, KBR was selected for the $8 billion ceiling Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract to support the National Science Foundation’s U.S. Antarctic Program, although the award remains under protest and has not yet been recorded in backlog. The segment also secured a $95 million U.S. Space Force contract and a position on the $866 million ceiling ASTRA multiple-award IDIQ supporting the U.S. Air Force, Department of War and intelligence community. KBR’s fiscal second-quarter presentation also highlighted a $208 million U.S. Army recompete supporting next-generation tactical munitions and precision-strike modernization, along with a NOAA award to provide critical weather data.
KBR’s Stock Price Performance
KBR stock has gained 19.4% in the past three months against the Zacks Engineering - R and D Services industry’s 9% fall. The company’s solid operating execution, healthy backlog and broad-based demand across its government and sustainable technology businesses support its growth prospects. Record backlog in Sustainable Technology Solutions, significant awarded work awaiting backlog conversion in Mission Technology Solutions and continued progress toward the planned separation further support the company’s longer-term prospects.

Nonetheless, near-term risks include the timing of government contract awards and protest resolutions, collection delays in certain international markets, project execution and mix-related variability, as well as costs and operational complexities associated with the planned separation.
