MiniMed Group, Inc. MMED recently announced that the MiniMed Flex system is now commercially shipping in the United States with Abbott Laboratories’ Instinct sensor. The combination brings together the company’s smallest and only app-controlled insulin pump with a sensor offering up to 15 days of wear. The expanded availability gives people with diabetes another option for managing their condition with a discreet, longer-wear sensor and automated insulin delivery technology.

Per management, MiniMed Flex is intended to provide advanced diabetes technology with minimal day-to-day effort for users. The pump remains discreetly tucked away while its algorithm continuously operates in the background. The addition of the Instinct sensor allows users to go up to 15 days between sensor changes. MiniMed views this combination as a step forward to a more hands-free approach to diabetes management, allowing technology to handle more of the routine work so users can focus less on their condition.
