MiniMed Group, Inc.MMED recently announced that the MiniMed Flex system is now commercially shipping in the United States with Abbott Laboratories’ Instinct sensor. The combination brings together the company’s smallest and only app-controlled insulin pump with a sensor offering up to 15 days of wear. The expanded availability gives people with diabetes another option for managing their condition with a discreet, longer-wear sensor and automated insulin delivery technology.
Per management, MiniMed Flex is intended to provide advanced diabetes technology with minimal day-to-day effort for users. The pump remains discreetly tucked away while its algorithm continuously operates in the background. The addition of the Instinct sensor allows users to go up to 15 days between sensor changes. MiniMed views this combination as a step forward to a more hands-free approach to diabetes management, allowing technology to handle more of the routine work so users can focus less on their condition.
Likely Trend of MMED Stock Following the News
MMED stock has gained 3.5% since the announcement on Monday. Year to date, shares of the company have climbed 9.3% compared with the industry’s 1.7% growth and the S&P 500’s 12.2% rise.
The commercial availability of MiniMed Flex with Instinct could support MMED’s growth prospects by expanding consumer choice and strengthening the appeal of its automated insulin delivery platform. The longer sensor wear may improve convenience and user experience, potentially supporting adoption and retention. The system’s compatibility with both Instinct and Simplera Sync also gives MiniMed greater flexibility in the U.S. market. Combined with the company’s broader push toward hands-free diabetes management, the launch could help strengthen MMED’s competitive position in the insulin pump market.
MMED currently has a market capitalization of $5.44 billion.

More on the News
Powered by the SmartGuard algorithm, MiniMed Flex automatically adjusts insulin delivery 24/7, while its Meal Detection technology can help compensate when a bolus is missed or carbohydrates are underestimated. MiniMed Flex can hold up to 300 units of insulin and works with the Extended infusion set, which can be worn for up to seven days. Its SmartGuard technology is also used in the MiniMed 780G system, with real-world data showing users with recommended settings achieved 80% Time in Range, including more than 90% overnight.
The expanded availability comes alongside MiniMed’s new consumer campaign for MiniMed Flex, marking the company’s first major marketing campaign since the system’s U.S. launch with Simplera Sync. The campaign emphasizes the pump’s discreet design, app-based control and 24/7 automation as features intended to make diabetes management less intrusive. MiniMed Flex is FDA-cleared for people with type 1 diabetes aged seven years and older, as well as adults aged 18 years and older with insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes.
Industry Prospects Favoring the Market
Per a report by Grand View Research, the global insulin delivery devices market size was estimated at $19.3 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach $35.2 billion by 2033, expanding at a CAGR of 7.8% from 2026 to 2033.
Growth is largely attributed to the rising global prevalence of diabetes, which has heightened the demand for advanced and user-friendly solutions for diabetes management.
Other News
Last month, MiniMed announced that the MiniMed Flex system is now available to Medicare and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in the United States, following its March rollout for commercially insured and private-pay patients. The expanded coverage broadens access to the company’s smallest and only app-controlled insulin pump, powered by the SmartGuard algorithm, which automatically adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes.
In June, MMED commercially launched the MiniMed 780G automated insulin delivery system integrated with Abbott's Instinct sensor and the MiniMed Go system integrated with the Instinct Go sensor across Europe. The rollout expands the company's sensor portfolio in the region and provides people with diabetes with greater flexibility and choice in managing their condition.
