Nucor CorporationNUE will invest $59 million to expand its Vulcraft Indiana manufacturing facility in St. Joe, IN, adding capabilities to produce steel grating products. The investment is expected to create 20 new full-time jobs, in addition to the more than 300 employees currently working at the facility.
The expansion will broaden Vulcraft Indiana’s product portfolio beyond steel joists, joist girders and steel decking by adding steel grating for industrial flooring, walkways, platforms and stair treads. This will allow Nucor to serve a wider range of construction and industrial applications. The facility has annual joist and deck production capacity of approximately 1.2 million tons, and the new capabilities should strengthen its position
The investment will also strengthen Nucor’s downstream, higher-value-added steel operations by leveraging Vulcraft’s existing manufacturing footprint and customer relationships. It supports the company’s broader “Grow the Core and Expand Beyond” strategy.
The project also represents Nucor’s fourth major investment in Indiana in recent years. The company previously announced a $290 million investment to modernize its Crawfordsville sheet mill, a $115 million utility infrastructure production facility and a $28.5 million insulated metal panel manufacturing facility in Waterloo. These investments underscore Nucor’s continued commitment to expanding its manufacturing footprint in Indiana. The company now employs more than 2,600 people across more than a dozen locations in the state.
The expansion provides incremental capacity in fabricated construction products while strengthening its ability to serve customers from an established U.S. manufacturing base. The project is also consistent with the company’s strategy of investing in downstream businesses that can capture additional value from its steel products and deepen customer relationships.
